Temporary Protection for Ukrainian citizens extended until 04.03.2027

The Bulgarian Council of Ministers has extended the period of temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine until 4 March 2027.

A separate decision extends the validity of existing temporary protection registration cards until 30 April 2026 and introduces a new format for these cards.

A re-registration process is now underway for all Ukrainians who wish to continue using temporary protection in Bulgaria. Re-registration must be completed no later than 30 April 2026; after that date, registration cards that are not renewed will be invalid, and the associated rights will be lost.

Re-registration can be carried out at the territorial units of the State Agency for Refugees or at designated Regional Police Directorates. Applicants must appear in person and present a completed application form, an identity document, and their current temporary protection card. Applications cannot be submitted through a representative.

Ukrainian citizens who would like to apply for different status s.a. „Blue Card of EU“, „Single Residency and Work Permit“, „Family member“ or other can submit documents earliest on the first working day after 30 April 2026 which is 4 May 2026.
